How I Met Your Father? Fox Files Trademarks For Potential Spinoff Show

If recent federal trademark filings are any indication, Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation may be planning a spinoff of the popular How I Met Your Mother show. On June 9th, the company filed two federal trademark applications for HOW I MET YOUR FATHER.
Fox filed these applications in Class 041 for "[e]ntertainment services in the nature of a television series featuring comedy" and a variety of related services, and in Class 009 for "[p]re-recorded DVDs featuring comedy" and a variety of related goods. Fox owns a registration for HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER in Class 041 for identical entertainment services in the nature of a television series featuring comedy. Both applications were filed on an intent-to-use basis.

According to Deadline.com, a pilot for this show (then called How I Met Your Dad) was presented to CBS in the first half of 2014, but the network passed on picking it up. Interestingly, Deadline also reported at that time that CBS and Twentieth Century Fox were in talks regarding the show. Given these recent trademark filings, it appears the show might have new life with Fox.

Fox Files Trademarks For Much Anticipated 24: Legacy

Just days before Fox announced Straight Out of Compton actor Corey Hawkins landed the starring role in 24: Legacy, the much anticipated reboot of Jack Bauer's 24, it filed two federal trademark applications for the show's title.

On January 22nd, Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation filed the standard character mark 24: LEGACY in Class 041 for a variety of entertainment services related to a television show and in Class 009 for DVDs, downloadable versions of the show, and related software.
Fox filed both applications on an intent-to-use basis, obviously, because the show is not yet on the air. The company only announced the new show a week and a half ago, and within a week had filed these trademark applications.

The storyline on IMDB.com states "[a]ccording to Fox, the project will center on a military hero who encounters a troubled return to the U.S., compelling him to ask CTU for help in saving his life, and stopping what potentially could be one of the largest-scale terror attacks on American soil." 24: Legacy is slated for 12 episodes and has an estimated budget of $35,000,000.00.

Fox May Be Planning Live Ice Age Show

The popular children's movie Ice Age (and all its sequels) may be getting a live show in the near future if a recent trademark application by Twentieth Century Fox is any indication. On November 5th, the company filed a federal trademark application for ICE AGE LIVE!
The goods listed on the application are numerous:
Presentation of live show performances related to motion picture films; providing on-line information in the field of motion picture film and video entertainment and live show performances related to motion picture films via the Internet; entertainment services in the nature of non-downloadable videos and images featuring motion picture film and live show performances related to motion picture films transmitted via the Internet and wireless communication networks; on-line journals, namely, blogs featuring personal opinions in the field of adventure, comedy and family entertainment; entertainment amusement park and theme park services related to motion picture films; entertainment services in the nature of musical, comedy and dramatic performances related to motion picture films[.]
Fox filed this application on an intent-to-use basis, which means the company is not currently using this trademark but has a bona fide intention to do so in the near future. In other words, it may be in talks to create a live Ice Age show. If you're an Ice Age fan, pay attention to this application.

Twentieth Century Fox Files Multiple Trademark Applications for Golden "E"

On August 5th, Twentieth Century Fox filed 16 federal trademark applications for the golden letter "E" below. The logo is described as a "stylized letter E in gold with an image of the vinyl player" in the applications.
Each application contains different goods or services that Twentieth Century Fox plans to market under this logo (based on the applications, they are not doing so currently). These goods and services range anywhere from online retail store services featuring fashion accessories to tobacco and cigars, alcoholic beverages, clothing, Christmas ornaments, toys, household items, toiletries, candies, energy drinks, and much more.

The above accessories and goods seem to be related to an application filed by Twentieth Century Fox on the same day for
Pre-recorded DVDs featuring drama; pre-recorded CDs featuring drama and musical performances; downloadable audio and video recordings featuring drama; downloadable television shows and video recordings featuring drama[.]
It's not clear what Twentieth Century Fox is planning for this stylized "E" but the expansive degree of trademark protection sought for this logo suggests those plans may be big. Stay tuned.
